may planting party!

We lucked out yesteday, and the forecasted showers held off. We even had some full-on sun in the afternoon, which required us to pull irrigation lines on all our newly planted winter squash, cucumbers, and tomatillos. Luckily, I had a willing and experienced crew, and everything got done with plenty of time for snacking and hanging out. The farm is now twice as big as it was on Friday! Hooray for volunteers!!

My farm neighbor John dropped by last week to make awesome hills to plant the squash and cukes into. I paid him back with some compost spreading help. A great example of community farming at Headwaters!
Jake drops fertilizer where the plants will go.
Aubrie, Matthew, and Aaron planting tomatillos.
Brindley and Kris plant Uncle David's Dakota Dessert Squash--a small squash with a big name, and a farm favorite.
Laying drip lines can look a lot like double Dutch jump rope.
Happy squash in their new home!
