2016 in review

It looks like I abandoned my share photos on this blog after the first week last year, so I'm updating it with pictures of shares 3-22. (I neglected to take a photo of the share in week 2. Oops!) Since members get to choose their shares, the shares pictured are just one of many combinations a member might have gotten. Can't wait 'til the veggies start rolling in again this year!!

busy days of april

Since my new intern Travis started on April 1, I'm amazed how much we've been able to get done. The warm dry days haven't hurt either, allowing us to prep many beds for planting. Crops now in the ground include all the onions and leeks, as well as lettuce, spinach, broccoli, collards, snap peas, beets, carrots, parsley, and more. Chard, celery, celeriac, and more lettuce and spinach wait in the wings for their debut planting next week. Besides planting, the farm has also been a flurry of weeding, drip-line pulling, fertilizing, and greenhouse seeding. Tasty food is just around the corner!

Travis walks beside the newly seeded cilantro bed. We've just finished covering the arugula, radishes, and turnips to protect them from flea beetles and root maggots.

peas, somewhat chewed upon but still growing strong

a future giant: flat-leaf parsley
romaine lettuce
Bright Lights chard
the less sexy side of farming: spreadsheets!
